how old is god

Is it possible to know the age of God, the creator of all that exists?

What does the Bible say about it?

What does mysticism reveal to us about the divine nature?

In this article, we will try to approach these questions from a religious point of view, with a touch of mysticism.

We do not intend to give a definitive answer, but rather to invite reflection and wonder before the mystery of God.

How Old Is God?

The first thing to keep in mind is that God is not subject to time, as we are.

Time is a dimension of creation, which God himself made possible.

But God is eternal, that is, He has no beginning and no end. He is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end of everything (Revelation 22:13).

Therefore, it makes no sense to ask how old God is, because God does not age or change.

He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). His eternity is one of His infinite perfections, which surpass and amaze us.

But If God Is Ageless, How Can We Relate To Him?

How can we know and love him?

This is where mysticism comes in, which is the direct and intimate experience of God.

Mysticism tells us that God reveals himself in many ways, but especially through his Son Jesus Christ, who became a man and lived among us.

Jesus Christ is the visible image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15).

He is the human face of God, who shows us his love and mercy.

He is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). He is the only mediator between God and men (1 Timothy 2:5).

What Does God’s Eternity Mean And How Does It Differ From Human Time?

The eternity of God means that God has no beginning and no end, that he exists forever and ever, that he is not subject to change and decay, that he does not depend on anything or anyone, that he is the origin and destiny of all that exists.

Human time, on the other hand, is a relative and limited measure, that it depends on the rotation of the Earth and the movement of the stars, that it is subject to change and decay, that it has a beginning and an end, that it is conditioned by human circumstances and decisions.

How Is God’s Eternity Revealed In Scripture And Salvation History?

The eternity of God is revealed in the Scriptures from the first verse of Genesis, when it says: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen 1:1).

This means that before the beginning there was already God, who is the creator of everything visible and invisible. It is also revealed in the name that God gives himself when he appears to Moses in the burning bush: “I am who I am” (Ex 3:14).

This means that God is being par excellence, that he needs no other name to define himself, that he is immutable and ineffable.

It is also revealed in the messianic prophecies, when the coming of the Son of God into the world is announced: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Is 9:6).

This means that Jesus Christ is the same God made man, who shares the same divine nature with the Father and the Holy Spirit, who is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end (Rev 22:13).

This means that Jesus is the author of life and the conqueror of sin, who offers us the possibility of participating in his eternity if we follow him with faith and love.

What Are The Implications Of God’s Eternity For Our Present And Future Life?

One of them is that it invites us to live the present with intensity, with meaning, with responsibility.

We cannot waste the time God has given us, but use it to do good, to grow in faith, to serve others. Another implication is that it calls us to look forward to the future with confidence, with joy, with hope.

We need not fear death or judgment, but prepare ourselves for the final encounter with God, who awaits us with open arms. Another implication is that it encourages us to love eternity with passion, with longing, with desire.

We cannot be satisfied with temporal and passing things, but aspire to eternal and immutable things, which are those that truly fill our hearts.

How old is Jesus Christ?

Jesus Christ does have a human age, because he was born at a historical moment.

According to the bible, jesus died between the ages of 33 and 40.

But he also has a divine age, because he is the eternal Son of God, begotten before all ages.

He is the Word of God, who was in the beginning with God and was God (John 1:1).

Thus, if we want to know how old God is, we must look to Jesus Christ, who reveals to us his eternity and his nearness. Jesus Christ is the bridge between time and eternity, between the human and the divine, between us and God.
